Windstream / Kinetic Router Login

Windstream rebranded its residential internet service as Kinetic by Windstream in 2018. The company serves primarily rural and suburban areas across the South, Midwest, and Southeast US — Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, Iowa, Georgia, and others — using a mix of DSL, fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), and hybrid fiber-DSL infrastructure. If you're on Kinetic internet, your gateway is probably from Calix, Greenwave, or occasionally an older Actiontec unit.

The admin IP for most Kinetic gateways is 192.168.1.1 and the admin password is printed on the device label — there's no universal default. The Kinetic app (rebranded from the Windstream app) handles most common tasks from your phone.

How to Log In

  1. Connect to the Kinetic WiFi or via ethernet into the gateway
  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
  3. Username: admin
  4. Password: find it on the sticker on the back or bottom of the gateway (labeled "Admin Password," "System Password," or "Password")
  5. The interface layout depends on the gateway model — Calix units have a clean modern UI; older Actiontec units have the classic Actiontec dashboard

Kinetic App

The Kinetic by Windstream app (iOS and Android) provides mobile management of your home network — WiFi name and password changes, device pausing, parental controls, and speed tests. Many users find this easier than the gateway web interface. Log in with your Windstream/Kinetic account credentials (the same ones used on the Kinetic website, not the gateway's admin password).

Windstream Fiber vs. DSL

Windstream is in the middle of upgrading rural areas from DSL to GPON fiber. If you're on DSL, your gateway is likely an older Actiontec or an older Calix E-Series. On fiber (which Windstream calls "Kinetic Gig"), you'll have a current Calix GigaSpire with WiFi 6. The upgrade also means moving from copper phone line connection to a fiber ONT — the gateway changes significantly in terms of features and speeds.
