Calix Router Login

Calix doesn't sell routers to consumers directly — they're a B2B company that builds cloud-managed gateway hardware for ISPs, particularly regional and rural fiber providers. If you have a Calix device, your ISP deployed it. Common ISPs using Calix equipment include Windstream / Kinetic, Consolidated Communications, and dozens of smaller cooperative and municipal fiber operators across the US.

The local admin interface is at 192.168.1.1 with your label-printed password. However, Calix gateways are managed remotely by the ISP through Calix's EXOS / cloud platform — this means many settings visible in the web interface are locked or overridden by your ISP. What you can change locally varies by ISP policy.

ISP-Managed vs. Locally-Managed Settings

This is the key thing to understand about Calix hardware. Your ISP controls the gateway remotely via Calix's operations platform. When you log into the web interface, you may find that some settings are grayed out or read-only. Common things ISPs lock:

  • WAN configuration (obviously — they control your connection type and credentials)
  • DNS servers (some ISPs push their own DNS and prevent changes)
  • Firewall profiles (ISPs may set a default firewall level)
  • Band steering and certain wireless radio settings

What's typically available locally: WiFi name and password, guest network, device management, and basic parental controls.

How to Log In

  1. Connect to your ISP WiFi or via ethernet into the Calix gateway
  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
  3. Username: admin
  4. Password: printed on the sticker on the back or bottom of the gateway
  5. The interface shows internet status, connected devices, and WiFi settings

CommandIQ App

Calix's CommandIQ app is their consumer-facing management app, customized with your ISP's branding. Your ISP may have released it under a different name (e.g., Windstream has the Kinetic app, powered by CommandIQ under the hood). The app handles WiFi management, device controls, parental controls, and speed tests — often with a cleaner UI than the web interface.

Change WiFi Password

  1. Log in at 192.168.1.1
  2. Navigate to Wi-Fi or Wireless settings
  3. Select the network band and update the password field
  4. Save — all devices need to reconnect with the new password

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
Settings greyed out / lockedYour ISP has locked those settings remotely — contact ISP if you need to change them
Label password not workingISP may have changed it during provisioning — call your ISP for the correct credentials
Can't find port forwardingSome Calix deployments put this under Advanced or Security — or it may be ISP-locked
Factory reset erases ISP configYes — a reset removes ISP provisioning. The gateway needs to be re-provisioned by your ISP after reset.
