Xfinity Router Login
Xfinity's xFi Gateway uses 10.0.0.1 as its admin address — not 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 like most routers. This surprises almost everyone. Comcast made the switch to the 10.0.0.x range to avoid conflicts with other equipment on subscriber networks. If you've been typing 192.168.1.1 and getting nothing, that's the reason.
There's a second thing to know: Comcast has gradually shifted settings management to the Xfinity app. Basic tasks like changing your WiFi password, seeing connected devices, and setting up parental controls are all in the app. The web interface at 10.0.0.1 still exists and handles advanced settings — port forwarding, bridge mode, DMZ — but for everyday use, the app is faster.
Two Ways to Manage Your Xfinity WiFi
| Method | Best For | What It Can't Do |
|---|---|---|
| Xfinity App (recommended) | WiFi password, devices, parental controls, speed test, guest network | Port forwarding, bridge mode, DMZ, advanced IP settings |
| Web at 10.0.0.1 | Port forwarding, bridge mode, IP reservations, firewall settings, full device list | Some consumer features moved to app-only |
Logging In at 10.0.0.1
- Connect to your Xfinity WiFi or plug an ethernet cable into the gateway
- Open a browser and go to
http://10.0.0.1— use http, not https - Username: admin
- Password: password (default) — or whatever you changed it to, or check the label on the gateway
- You'll land on the gateway's status page. Navigate using the top menu.
Using the Xfinity App Instead
The Xfinity app signs in with your Xfinity account credentials (your Comcast email/username), not the gateway's admin password. This means it also works remotely — you can change your WiFi password from work or check which devices are connected while away from home.
- Download the Xfinity app from the App Store or Google Play
- Sign in with your Xfinity ID (the email/username on your Comcast account)
- Tap the Connect tab at the bottom
- Tap your WiFi network to manage settings, see devices, pause internet, and more
Change WiFi Password via Web
- Log in at 10.0.0.1
- Go to Gateway → Connection → Wi-Fi
- Click Edit next to the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz network
- Update the Network Password field
- Click Save Settings
- All devices will disconnect — reconnect with the new password
Bridge Mode (Use Your Own Router)
If you want to use your own router instead of relying on the xFi Gateway's WiFi, you can put the gateway into bridge mode. This disables the gateway's routing and WiFi features, turning it into a pure modem — your own router handles everything else.
- Log in at 10.0.0.1
- Go to Gateway → At a Glance
- Next to Bridge Mode, click Enable
- Confirm the warning — the gateway reboots and your own router becomes active
Note: Bridge mode disables the Xfinity app's remote management features. You'll manage everything through your own router's interface instead.
Port Forwarding
- Log in at 10.0.0.1
- Go to Advanced → Port Forwarding
- Click Add Service
- Choose a service type or enter custom port numbers
- Select the device to forward to (by IP or MAC)
- Save — takes effect immediately
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| 10.0.0.1 not loading | Make sure you're on Xfinity WiFi or ethernet — mobile data won't reach the gateway admin |
| Password "password" rejected | Check the sticker on the gateway; some units have a unique admin password printed |
| Locked out of admin | Factory reset: press reset button on the back for 30 seconds |
| Can't find port forwarding | Bridge mode must be off. Also confirm you're connected directly to the gateway, not through another router |
| App shows "no internet" even when connected | Sign out of the Xfinity app and sign back in — account sync issue |
