Spectrum Router Login

Spectrum (Charter Communications) deploys several different gateway and router models depending on your market and service tier — and the login credentials differ between them. The common thread: the admin address is usually 192.168.1.1, but the password varies. Older Spectrum WiFi routers used the predictable admin / admin default. Current Wave 2 and SAC series routers print a unique password on the device label.

Spectrum also pushes users toward the My Spectrum app for everyday settings. The app handles most WiFi tasks cleanly and has the added advantage of remote access — you can manage your home network from anywhere. For advanced settings like port forwarding or static IP reservations, the web interface at 192.168.1.1 is necessary.

Netgear Modem (CM500, CM600)adminpassword192.168.100.1
Modem vs. router: The Arris and Netgear units above are cable modems, not routers — their admin at 192.168.100.1 shows signal diagnostics, not WiFi settings. If Spectrum gave you a separate modem and router, the router's admin is at 192.168.1.1. If you have one combined unit (the SAC series), that handles both roles.

How to Log In

  1. Connect to your Spectrum WiFi or plug an ethernet cable into the router
  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1
  3. Enter your admin credentials — admin/admin for older routers, or the label password for current equipment
  4. You'll see the router's home dashboard showing internet status, connected devices, and WiFi info

My Spectrum App (Easiest Method)

The My Spectrum app uses your Spectrum account login (not the router's admin password), so it works from anywhere with internet — not just from home. This makes it useful for remotely pausing devices, checking who's connected, or changing the WiFi password without being physically present.

  1. Download the My Spectrum app (iOS or Android)
  2. Sign in with your Spectrum account username and password
  3. Tap Services → Internet
  4. Tap Manage Network to change WiFi settings, see devices, and set up parental controls

Change WiFi Password

Via web interface:

  1. Log in at 192.168.1.1
  2. Go to Wireless → Basic (or similar — exact menu varies by model)
  3. Find the Password or Pre-Shared Key field
  4. Enter your new password and click Apply or Save

Via the app: Tap Services → Internet → Manage Network → WiFi Network Name & Password → edit and save.

Port Forwarding

  1. Log in at 192.168.1.1
  2. Go to Advanced → Port Forwarding
  3. Add a new rule: enter the application name, protocol (TCP/UDP), external port, internal IP, and internal port
  4. Save the rule — takes effect immediately

For port forwarding to work reliably, set a static IP reservation for the device first under Advanced → IP Reservation. Otherwise the device's IP may change after a reboot.

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
192.168.1.1 won't loadMake sure you're connected to Spectrum WiFi — not mobile data. Try ethernet.
admin/admin rejectedCurrent equipment uses label password — check sticker on back/bottom of router
Forgot password, locked outFactory reset: hold reset button 10–15 seconds on the back of the router
Can't see port forwarding optionLog in to web UI (10.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), not the app — port forwarding is web-only
WiFi slow after password changeRestart the gateway — power off for 30 seconds, power back on

Factory Reset

  1. Locate the reset button on the back or bottom of the router (pinhole — use a pin or paperclip)
  2. With the router on, press and hold the reset button for 10–15 seconds until the lights change
  3. The router reboots to factory defaults — takes about 2 minutes
  4. Connect to the default WiFi (on the router label) and reconfigure

If Spectrum provided the equipment, a factory reset returns it to the state Spectrum configured it in — the default WiFi name and password printed on the label will work again.
