Synology Router Login

Synology is best known for NAS devices, but their router lineup — the RT series — brings the same philosophy to networking: a powerful, feature-rich admin interface in a desktop-like environment. Synology routers run Synology Router Manager (SRM), which closely resembles their NAS operating system DSM. The interface looks and behaves like a browser-based desktop with windows, a taskbar, and installed packages.

The admin IP is 192.168.1.1 or the local hostname router.synology.com. There is no default password — SRM forces you to create an admin account during initial setup. If you never went through setup, the router is waiting at 192.168.1.1 for first-time configuration.

How to Log In

  1. Connect to the Synology WiFi or via ethernet
  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1 or http://router.synology.com
  3. If this is first setup: the SRM Quick Setup wizard runs — create your admin username and password
  4. On subsequent logins: enter the admin credentials you set
  5. SRM loads as a windowed desktop interface — Network Center handles routing, Safe Access handles content filtering and parental controls, VPN Plus handles VPN

SRM Interface Overview

SRM operates as a windowed application environment. Key apps in the SRM desktop:

  • Network Center — Internet connection status, LAN settings, port forwarding, traffic control, and connected device management
  • Safe Access — Parental controls and content filtering with per-device profiles, time limits, and website blocking categories
  • VPN Plus — SSL VPN, site-to-site VPN, WebVPN — host your own VPN server on the router
  • Threat Prevention — Intrusion detection/prevention using Suricata rules (RT6600ax and RT2600ac)
  • Package Center — Install additional SRM packages, similar to the NAS DSM ecosystem

Synology Mesh — MeshRouter

The RT2600ac and RT6600ax support Synology's mesh system (MR2200ac as satellite nodes). After initial setup, connect MR2200ac nodes to expand coverage. Manage all nodes centrally from the main router's SRM interface — no separate app or login per node.

  2. Open Network Center → Wireless
  3. Click Edit on your WiFi network
  4. Update the Password field in the Security tab
