TP-Link Router Login
TP-Link is the world's largest router manufacturer by volume — their Archer series and budget TL-WR line are everywhere. The admin panel lives at tplinkwifi.net (their local hostname) or the IP address 192.168.0.1. Note that TP-Link defaults to the 0.x subnet, not the 1.x subnet most other brands use. If you've been typing 192.168.1.1, that's why nothing loads.
There's a catch with credentials: TP-Link split their password policy by router generation. Older models (TL-WR series, early Archer C models) use the classic admin / admin. Current Archer AX and BE models have no default password at all — on first boot, a setup wizard forces you to create one before you can do anything. If you've never set this router up before, you'll be prompted to create a password. If someone else set it up, you'll need to factory reset to regain access.
Credentials by Router Series
| Series | Username | Password | Admin IP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Archer AX / BE (current) | (none) | Created during first setup — no default | 192.168.0.1 |
| Archer C (older WiFi 5) | admin | admin | 192.168.0.1 |
| TL-WR series (budget) | admin | admin | 192.168.0.1 |
| Deco Mesh (all models) | — | Deco app only — limited web UI at 192.168.68.1 | 192.168.68.1 |
| Range Extenders | admin | admin | 192.168.0.254 |
How to Log In
- Connect to your TP-Link WiFi network, or plug an ethernet cable into a LAN port
- Open a browser and type
http://tplinkwifi.netin the address bar — not the search box - If tplinkwifi.net doesn't load, try
http://192.168.0.1(use http, not https) - Enter your admin password — or admin/admin if you have an older model
- Click Log In
TP-Link's newer Archer routers have two interface modes: Basic (simplified, for most users) and Advanced (full settings). The Advanced tab is where you'll find everything: VPN, IPv6, USB storage, QoS, and detailed wireless settings.
TP-Link Product Lines Explained
| Line | What It Is | Notable Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Archer AX / BE | Current WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 routers. Single-unit, not mesh. Best performance in the TP-Link lineup. | No default password — created on setup |
| Archer C | WiFi 5 (AC) routers. Millions sold. Still widely used. Budget to mid-range price point. | admin/admin default on most models |
| Deco | TP-Link's mesh system. Managed almost entirely through the Deco app — web UI exists but is limited. Uses the 192.168.68.1 subnet. | App-first: Deco app for iOS/Android |
| TL-WR | Budget single-band or dual-band routers. Very common in emerging markets. The TL-WR940N is one of TP-Link's highest-volume models ever. | admin/admin, 192.168.0.1 |
| Range Extenders (RE) | WiFi extenders, not routers. Administered at 192.168.0.254. Can also be managed through the Tether app. | TP-Link calls their extender+router combo "OneMesh" |
Tether App
TP-Link's Tether app covers most common settings and works on both local WiFi and remotely. It's especially useful for Archer routers since it mirrors the admin panel in a mobile-friendly layout. The Deco app is a separate download for Deco mesh systems.
- WiFi management — Change name and password for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands
- Device list — See every connected device; block unwanted ones
- Parental controls — Set time schedules, filter content per device
- QoS — Prioritize bandwidth for gaming or video calls
- Guest network — Isolated WiFi for visitors with optional speed limits
- LED control — Toggle the router's status lights on or off
- Firmware updates — One-tap update when new versions are available
Change WiFi Password
- Log in at tplinkwifi.net or 192.168.0.1
- Go to Basic → Wireless (or Advanced → Wireless → Wireless Settings)
- Find the Password field under your 2.4 GHz network
- Enter your new password — 8 characters minimum, 12+ recommended
- Click Save
- Repeat for the 5 GHz band if it has a separate name
All connected devices will drop off and need the new password to reconnect. If you use Smart Connect (one combined SSID for both bands), you only need to update it once.
Update Firmware
- Log in and go to Advanced → System Tools → Firmware Upgrade
- Click Check for Updates
- If a newer version is listed, click Upgrade
- The router downloads the update and reboots — takes about 3 minutes. Don't unplug it during this process
TP-Link releases firmware updates fairly regularly for current models. Major Archer AX updates have added WPA3 support, homecare improvements, and TP-Link ID integration.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| tplinkwifi.net doesn't load | Try http://192.168.0.1 — confirm you're connected to the TP-Link WiFi |
| admin/admin not working | You have a newer Archer — use the password you set during initial setup |
| Forgot admin password | Factory reset: hold reset button 10 seconds with router on |
| 192.168.0.1 loads the wrong router | Another device on your network uses .0.1 — connect via ethernet directly to the TP-Link |
| Deco web UI very limited | This is by design — TP-Link moved Deco management to the Deco app |
| tplinkwifi.net shows certificate error | Your browser is trying HTTPS — type http://tplinkwifi.net with the http:// prefix |
Factory Reset
- Find the reset button on the back or bottom of the router (pinhole — needs a pin or paperclip)
- With the router powered on, press and hold for 10 seconds
- The LEDs will flash — release the button
- The router reboots to factory defaults — takes about 60 seconds
- Connect to the default WiFi (printed on the router label) and run first-time setup again
