Motorola Router Login
Motorola's networking lineup (now owned by Zoom Telephonics, not the smartphone company) splits into two distinct product types that are often confused. The MG series are modem-router combos — one box that handles both the cable modem connection and your WiFi. The MB series are cable modems only — they connect to your ISP's cable line but don't have WiFi or routing built in. The admin interface and IP address differ between them.
For MG series (modem+router): admin is at 192.168.0.1 with the unusual default password motorola — not "admin" or "password" like most brands. For MB series (modem-only): the interface at 192.168.100.1 shows signal diagnostics only, not WiFi settings (because there is no WiFi).

The "motorola" Password
Motorola's choice of "motorola" as the default password rather than "password" or "admin" is unusual enough that it trips up a lot of people. It's the same across all MG series units from the factory. The first thing to do after logging in for the first time is change this to something unique — any neighbour or visitor who knows the default can access your router admin.
How to Log In (MG Series)
- Connect to the Motorola WiFi or via ethernet into a LAN port
- Open a browser and go to
http://192.168.0.1 - Username: admin
- Password: motorola
- You'll see the combined modem-router dashboard with internet status, WiFi settings, and cable signal info in one interface
MB Series — Modem Diagnostics (192.168.100.1)
The MB series (MB7621, MB8611, etc.) are pure cable modems. They do not have WiFi, they do not assign IP addresses to your devices, and their admin interface shows cable signal information only — not network settings. Connect your own router to the MB modem's Ethernet port; your router handles all WiFi and routing.
The MB modem's interface at 192.168.100.1 is useful for: checking downstream power levels (should be -7 to +7 dBmV), SNR (33 dB or better), DOCSIS bonded channels, and connection uptime. Your ISP's tech support may ask you to read these numbers when troubleshooting slow internet.
Change WiFi Password (MG Series)
- Log in at 192.168.0.1
- Go to Gateway → Connection → Wi-Fi
- Select your network band
- Update the Network Password and save
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| "motorola" password rejected | A previous admin changed the password — factory reset required |
| 192.168.0.1 loads but no WiFi settings | You have an MB modem, not an MG router — connect a separate router |
| ISP won't certify the MG series | Motorola MG units need to be on your ISP's approved DOCSIS modem list — verify compatibility |
| Forgot admin password | Factory reset: hold reset button on back 10+ seconds |
