Optimum Router Login

Optimum (owned by Altice USA) provides a gateway — a combined modem and router — to most of its subscribers. The admin panel lives at 192.168.1.1 on most models, and the password is unique to your specific device (printed on the label). Unlike older ISPs that used universal defaults like admin/admin, every Altice gateway ships with its own password, so you need to look at the physical device.

Gateway Admin: 192.168.1.1

How to Log In

Open a browser on a device connected to your Optimum WiFi (or via Ethernet cable to the gateway) and navigate to http://192.168.1.1. When the login screen appears:

Username: admin — this is the same on all Altice gateways.

Password: Flip your gateway over or look at the back panel. There will be a sticker with a label that says something like "Admin Password," "Gateway Password," or "GUI Password." That string of characters — typically 8–12 characters mixing letters and numbers — is your login password. It is unique to your device.

Not on 192.168.1.1? Ubee gateways (older Optimum hardware) typically use 192.168.0.1 instead. If 192.168.1.1 gives you a browser error, try that address. The login credentials work the same way — check the label.

Optimum Gateway Models

Optimum has deployed several different gateway models over the years. Each uses the same admin login process, but the admin panel interface, feature availability, and default IP can differ:

Gateway ModelAdmin IPWiFi StandardNotes
Altice Smart Router (white cube)192.168.1.1WiFi 5 (AC)Most common current model. Clean UI, most settings accessible
Altice WiFi 6 Gateway192.168.1.1WiFi 6 (AX)Newer deployments. Dual-band + 6 GHz on select plans
Altice One (set-top box combo)192.168.1.1WiFi 5 (AC)Combined router + cable box. Admin panel is limited — most managed via app
Ubee DVW32CB192.168.0.1WiFi 5 (AC)Older model, still in use. DOCSIS 3.1
Ubee DDW365192.168.0.1WiFi 4 (N)Legacy model. If you have this, consider requesting an upgrade
Arris TM1602192.168.100.1Modem onlyNo WiFi — cable modem, typically paired with a separate router

If you are unsure which model you have, look at the label on the device — the model number is printed there. You can also check the Optimum app: it shows your connected gateway model under Account → Equipment.

What You Can Change in the Admin Panel

The Altice gateway admin panel at 192.168.1.1 gives you access to the most-used settings, though it is not as fully featured as standalone routers from NETGEAR or ASUS.

WiFi name (SSID) and password — Under Wireless or WiFi Settings, you can rename your network and change the password for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands separately. This is the most common reason to access the admin panel.

WiFi security mode — You can switch between WPA2 and WPA3 (on WiFi 6 gateways) or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Stick with WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed for best compatibility. See WPA2 vs WPA3 for more detail.

Connected devices — View every device connected to your network, with IP addresses and MAC addresses. Useful for spotting unknown devices or diagnosing connection issues.

Port forwarding — Found under Advanced Settings or Firewall. Required if you run a game server, security camera system, or any service that needs to be reachable from outside your network.

DHCP settings — You can adjust the IP address range the gateway assigns to devices, and set DHCP reservations (fixed IPs for specific devices by MAC address).

Admin password — You can change the gateway's admin login password from the default printed on the label. Recommended once you have everything set up — it prevents anyone on your network from logging into the admin panel.

What the Optimum App Handles

Optimum pushes much of the network management experience into its mobile app, similar to how Xfinity uses the xFi app. Some features are only available through the app:

The Optimum app (available on iOS and Android) requires signing in with your Optimum account credentials — the same ones you use to pay your bill — not the gateway admin password.

Change Your Optimum WiFi Password

This is the most common task people log into the gateway for. Once you are in the admin panel at 192.168.1.1:

On the Altice Smart Router: Click Wireless or WiFi in the navigation. You will see two sections — one for the 2.4 GHz band and one for 5 GHz. Find the Password or WiFi Key field under each, type your new password, and click Save or Apply. All devices will disconnect and need to rejoin with the new password.

Via the Optimum app: Open the app → tap WiFi → select your network → tap Edit next to the password field → enter the new password → save. The app method is often faster if you have the app installed.

Choose a password that is at least 12 characters. A mix of words, numbers, and symbols works well — for example Maple7River!Blue is far harder to crack than optimum2024.

Bridge Mode — Using Your Own Router

If you want more control than the Altice gateway provides — better QoS, VPN server, advanced firewall rules, or a mesh WiFi system — you can enable bridge mode. This disables the gateway's router and WiFi functions, turning it into a cable modem only. Your own router connects to it via Ethernet and handles everything else.

To enable bridge mode on an Altice gateway:

Option 1 — Admin panel: Log into 192.168.1.1, go to Advanced Settings or WAN settings, and look for a Bridge Mode or IP Passthrough option. Not all firmware versions expose this — if you do not see it, use Option 2.

Option 2 — Call Optimum: Call support at 1-888-276-5255 and ask them to enable bridge mode on your gateway. They can do it remotely. Have your account information ready. Note that in bridge mode, any Optimum app features (parental controls, device pausing) tied to the gateway's router functions will stop working.

Once bridge mode is active, connect your router's WAN (Internet) port to one of the gateway's LAN Ethernet ports, and your router takes over all routing, DHCP, and WiFi functions.

Login Not Working — Troubleshooting

Browser shows an error instead of the login page: First confirm you are connected to the Optimum network — either via WiFi or a direct Ethernet cable to the gateway. You cannot reach 192.168.1.1 from mobile data. If you are connected and still getting an error, try typing the full URL including http://: http://192.168.1.1. Some browsers auto-add https:// which will not work for router admin pages.

Wrong IP address: If you have an older Ubee gateway, its address is 192.168.0.1 — not 192.168.1.1. Try both. You can also confirm your gateway's IP by checking your device's network settings: on Windows run ipconfig in Command Prompt and look for the Default Gateway entry. On Mac, go to System Settings → Network → WiFi → Details → TCP/IP.

Password on the label is not working: This happens when the admin password was changed from the default at some point — by a previous tenant, an Optimum technician during installation, or someone else in your household. If no one knows the new password, the only fix is a factory reset: locate the small pinhole reset button on the back of the gateway, press and hold it with a paperclip for 10–15 seconds while the gateway is powered on. All settings — including the admin password — will return to the factory defaults printed on the label. Your WiFi name and password will also reset, so every device will need to reconnect.

VPN is running: VPN software routes local traffic through a remote server, making addresses like 192.168.1.1 unreachable. Disconnect your VPN, access the admin panel, then reconnect when you are done.

Altice One gateway — limited web admin: If you have the Altice One (the combined cable box and router), its web admin panel is intentionally restricted. Most settings for this device are only available through the Optimum app. If you cannot find a setting you need, check the app first.

Requesting a Gateway Upgrade

If you have an older Ubee DDW365 or DDW36C running WiFi 4, you are likely eligible for a free upgrade to a newer WiFi 5 or WiFi 6 gateway. Call Optimum at 1-888-276-5255 or use the chat on optimum.com to request an equipment upgrade. Newer gateways offer noticeably better range and speeds, especially in homes with many connected devices.
