192.168.68.1 — TP-Link Deco

192.168.68.1 is the default gateway IP used by all TP-Link Deco mesh WiFi systems. It stands out because nearly every other consumer router uses 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 — Deco's 192.168.68.x subnet was chosen specifically to avoid conflicts with whatever router a user was replacing. If you see 192.168.68.1, you have a TP-Link Deco mesh system.

TP-Link designed Deco primarily as an app-managed system. The Deco app (iOS/Android) handles setup, parental controls, device management, and most advanced settings. The web interface at 192.168.68.1 exists and provides a subset of controls, but it's not the primary management path.

How to Log In

  1. Connect to your Deco WiFi or via ethernet into one of the Deco units
  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.68.1
  3. You'll be prompted to log in with your TP-Link account (the same account used in the Deco app)
  4. The web interface shows basic system status, WiFi settings, and connected devices

The web interface requires a TP-Link account login — unlike most routers that use a local username/password, Deco ties its credentials to TP-Link's cloud accounts. If you set up Deco without creating a TP-Link account (the offline setup option), the local password set during setup is used instead.

Deco in Router vs. Access Point Mode

Deco systems can run in two modes:

  • Router Mode (default) — the primary Deco handles DHCP, NAT, and routing. Your network is on the 192.168.68.x subnet. This is the standard setup for replacing an ISP gateway.
  • Access Point Mode — Deco handles only WiFi, while another router (often an ISP gateway) handles DHCP and routing. In AP mode, the Deco nodes get IPs from your existing router and the 192.168.68.1 subnet may not be accessible in the usual way.

Adding Deco Nodes (Expanding Mesh)

  1. Power on the new Deco node anywhere within range of an existing node
  2. Open the Deco app → tap the + button → Add Deco
  3. Follow the in-app steps — the new node automatically joins the mesh and appears in the topology view
  4. Deco nodes use a dedicated wireless backhaul channel (on tri-band models) or share a band for backhaul (on dual-band models)

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
192.168.68.1 not loadingConfirm you're connected to Deco WiFi — another router's network won't route to 192.168.68.1
TP-Link account login failingIf set up offline, use the local password created during setup instead
Deco in AP mode — can't reach 192.168.68.1In AP mode, access the Deco web interface via its assigned IP from your main router's DHCP table
Node disconnecting from meshEnsure wireless backhaul is stable — move node closer to the primary Deco, or use an ethernet backhaul cable if possible
Factory resetHold the reset button inside the Deco unit (or pinhole on bottom) for 5 seconds — resets to 192.168.68.1 defaults
